Meet the Doctor
Dr. Shapiro received his dental degree from Columbia University in New York in 1974 and completed his hospital residency at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY in 1975. He completed his periodontal training at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1977. After a full-time teaching position as Assistant Professor of Periodontics at the Emory University School of Dentistry, Dr. Shapiro established a community practice specializing in Periodontics in 1979 and is at that same location today. Dr. Shapiro received Diplomate certification by the American Board of Periodontology in 1986 and is a Fellow of the Georgia Dental Association.
Dr. Shapiro has a particular interest in saving natural teeth that other specialists deem "hopeless." His advanced methods of treating "hopeless" teeth were detailed in an article published in the Journal of the American Dental Association (Vol. 125, P596-599, 1994). Another of Dr. Shapiro's articles on treating patients with bleeding disorders was published in the Journal of the American Dental Association (Vol. 124, P64-67, 1993). Other scientific writings on various subjects have appeared in the Journal of Oral Surgery and the Journal of Periodontology.
